The defence of the Sanctuary and New Place was not exactly an important fact in the general overview that it represents: a series of waves, the offensive and defensive moments of a war. Those points had not objective meanings and the existence and disappearance does not influence the general running of the operations from two sides (...) The significance of the heroic defence must be fitted on the line that we can called “strong resistance”. The siege lasted 228 days and those people severally suffered from hunger and thirst, rain and cold, etc... And physical suffering meant the precedents of the lack of hope and the disappointment of not being helped as they thought that it was possible.
